After our busiest month EVER, the summer reading program will be ending this Friday. Summer school ended last week. Things usually slow down a little bit in August here at the library. Staff take vacations, patrons take vacations, summer has become a routine. Sure it’s 95 degrees out right now, but fall is right around the corner!
We have lots of new things coming this September. First, you may have already noticed a change in our web catalog here at the library. We usually set up one computer with the new version of our catalog, just to see what people do with it. Click here for a look at the latest interface. It works (mostly) and is ready to be used. It looks a lot different, works a lot better and is easier to search and find what you are looking for.
The way our internet computers work is going to change this fall. When you sit down at a computer, you’ll have to enter your library card number and PIN. The new software will keep track of how long you’ve been using the computer and automatically shut off when you’ve hit your 30 minute limit. Don’t worry, though, you’ll still be able to watch endless Youtube videos. Find out more when the software becomes available. It will, however, mean that everyone who wants to use a computer will absolutely NEED a library card.
Finally, we will be switching to an automatic phone notification system. We spend a few hours a day calling people when delivery gets here. This new system will free up staff time to work with patrons in the library. Don’t want a robocall? You can sign up for texting or email notification at the library.
