As you may have noticed, the look and feel of the SHARE catalog has changed slightly. We have received an upgrade to the newest version of the catalog. What does that mean to you? Not much, sadly. But it’s another step closer to something that will work much better for all of us. Really the only really exciting new feature of the current upgrade is the ability to bookmark searches and search terms. What does this mean? You can do a search for something like “dvd and 2010″ to get the newest DVD releases. After the search is done, you can bookmark that page like you would another website. Then you can come back to it whenever you want and it’ll keep updating you with new releases. Like this.
Also, we have two new computers in the library for patron internet use. In addition to internet, all of our public computers have Microsoft Word and you are able to use them for downloading music and other material for your portable devices.
Finally, you may have seen that Kewaskum (in addition to scores of other WI libraries) will be the recipient of an internet upgrade courtesy of the broadband stimulus package. Exciting! This means our internet will be 3 or 4 times faster than it is right now. Installation of fiber optic cables will begin sometime in the late spring/summer time.

When I was in middle school, I eagerly awaited the Helen Mears art contest every year. My 8th grade entry “Death of a Technicolor World” featured a ringed planet, a checkerboard dissolving into a giant hourglass and a headless dog. I did not win.
During the first two weeks of March, 2010, we will be hosting student entries from the Kewaskum School District. The Helen Mears Art Contest is sponsored by the Kewaskum Junior Women’s Club. This year they will offer a prize for a piece of artwork that is given the “Community Choice Award.” You will be able to come in and vote on which artwork you like best! The winner will receive a family membership to the always-inspirational Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend.
Put it on your calendar.
