More books!

Nearly 200 books on one small device!

Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with all of the new books. According to the United Nations, over 300,000 individual new book titles were published in the United States in 2010. That’s a lot of words. And that doesn’t count self-published titles, which have started to creep into the collective cultural consciousness via ebook readers. With space for only around 30,000 volumes, we have to be picky about what we purchase every year. And of course we don’t turn over our whole collection every year. That means that we miss out on tens of thousands of books, year after year after year. Nothing we can do will change that, but we have started to purchase more ebooks to help fill in some of the gaps. Why ebooks? They are cheaper than paper books. They last longer. We can buy one copy and put it on 5 machines, thus putting 5 copies into circulation almost instantaneously.

Have you tried one of our ebook readers? We have 4 Nooks (2 full color, 2 e-ink only) that are available for check out, plus a Kindle for use by book club members. They come stocked with all of the most-requested titles from E.L. James to James Patterson. They check out for 2 weeks and the color ones also have games and apps available on them.
