Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Program theme this year is “Dream Big.” Library staff are visiting the elementary schools talking to kids about their hopes and dreams. We’re also preparing 6 weeks of fun for kids in K-5th grade. Information is being sent home with students and registration forms will be available at the library during the weeks of June 4 and 11. This program is FREE for everyone and is supported in part by the Kewaskum Women’s Club. Download a flyer of events here [.pdf].

Celebrate the Arts!

The Gateway to the Arts Festival is on Saturday, May 12th. Activities include Student Art Shows, Music Groups, Drama, Piano Recitals, Children’s Activities including art projects to take home, Be a Mime, and Face Painting, Craft Vendors, Folk Dancing, Blue Grass Band, Food, En Plein Air Competition, Balloon Animals, and much more! This event is free, open to the public and great for families. The festival starts at 9am and lasts until 4pm. Events are located at the Kewaskum Middle School and High School campus.

Open Mic

Do you write poems or songs? Would you like a chance to read or perform in front of people? In honor of National Poetry Month, there will be an Open Mic at the Coffee Corner on Monday, April 30th. You may sign up to read 2 or 3 poems or perform 1 or 2 songs. If you have a short story you’d like to read, it should be quite short–1000 words or less. Please contact Steev at the library if you are interested in performing. This event is free and open to the public and will run from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Poetry month

Yes, we are in fact giving away some free notepads and writing implements if you give us a poem you wrote. And that’s not all! We’re also sponsoring an Open Mic night at the Coffee Corner here in Kewaskum. It will be Monday, April 30th at 6pm. Contact Steev at the library if you’d like to sign up to read a poem or short story! It’s open to anyone of any age and should be awesome.

T.S. Eliot famously said that April was the cruelest month. That’s probably because he never got free custard. Since April is both National Library Month and National Poetry Month, we’re giving away custard and little notepads. The custard is for drawing a picture of a scene or character from your favorite book. The notepads are for giving us a poem–that you wrote. We’re also hosting a poetry open mic at the end of the month. Location TBA. So what are you waiting for? Get in here and get creative!

Knitting Class

Attention yarn enthusiasts! Looking for more projects on which to practice your knitting? Sign up today for another library-sponsored knitting class. Great for beginners and experts alike! Hang out with other knitters and come home with a circular dish cloth. PLEASE sign up before hand so we know how many skeins of yarn to get! The class is FREE and open to the public. This class will meet on Thursday, April 19th at 6pm. For more information, please call the library at 626-4312.

The Amish: Who are they?

There are an estimated 8,000-12,000 Amish in Wisconsin. Author Richard Dawley has written 8 books about Amish and Mennonite culture. He has traveled extensively to Amish communities around the US and even to Switzerland, from whence the Amish originally come. We’re excited to have Mr. Dawley joining us on Tuesday, March 13, with a presentation on “The Plain People.” He has made it his goal to dispel myths and build understanding about the Amish and other Anabaptist groups.
